EDUCATION
Wednesday is known as ‘Education Wednesday’ and each week we run 3 separate simulations (paediatric, trauma and medical) each lasting an hour. Here, you will have the opportunity to be involved in scenarios that you may find more challenging, or that are purposely focused on presentations that we may see less of in ED. Having attended a simulation session, you will be able to get some form of assessment (usually a CEX) completed by whoever it was that ran the session.
When you start working in ED at the LRI, we hope that you will be able to take advantage of some of the fantastic education opportunities that we have here.
The ED has (and is very proud of!) its own dedicated education team, who help to run a very busy and varied education programme, which utilises a wide range of different teaching tools and techniques.
The Education Team have also created the website EM3, which contains a whole host of different educational resources for you to access.
As well as Education Wednesday, we run CBD ‘clinics’ which are designed to allow you to present a case of your choosing, giving the opportunity for a more detailed discussion with a registrar or consultant, allowing a subsequent CBD assessment to be completed.
We also run focused shop-floor teaching, skills and drills sessions (where more senior doctors can practice things such as High Acuity Low Occurrence (HALO) procedures/scenarios, paediatric lumbar punctures, accessing Hickman lines etc), and ultrasound teaching.
All of these sessions can be booked via EM3 here.
We really do encourage you to make the most of all of these educational opportunities, but please do also be aware of the ‘Time Away From the Shop Floor’ policy (click to access) and make sure that when clinical, you are only leaving the shop floor for the appropriate reasons.
For more educational resources (including advice on how to book study leave and claim expenses) please go to the main EDUCATED page.
